Napa, California: Our current customer had called us to repair the damage he had done to his vehicle when he tried to remove tree sap from his front bumper at his home. Unfortunately, the removal process caused deep scratches and swirls(pictures below) that could only be removed by performing a deep paint correction on the damaged areas. Furthermore, the vehicle had multiple deep scratches all over the Tesla Model Y’s paint that were glaringly visible from a distance. On top of these deeper scratches scattered all over the Tesla’s paint job, we also noticed that the commercial car washes that the customer had used to maintain his blue Tesla had caused bristle marks and swirls all over the vehicle.
After pointing out all these imperfections to the customer we recommended that instead of having us do a minor mobile paint correction at his home we should take his blue Tesla Model Y to our shop and have us spend a full day performing a two-step paint correction on his vehicle. The price for this service was higher than what we had initially factored in. Still, he agreed to have us perform a full two-step paint correction on the entire vehicle versus having isolated spots stick as way shinier than the rest of the Tesla.
We started the paint correction by first giving the vehicle our signature foam wash at our shop in Napa, California. We then used high-GSM ultra-plush microfiber drying towels in conjunction with an automotive blower to remove all water on the painted surfaces and crevices. This ensured that there would be no water spots etched on the Tesla's glass and paint while preventing any water from interfering with the two-step paint correction.
After drying the Model Y, we performed a clay bar treatment to remove all surface decontamination and debris embedded on the vehicle’s painted surfaces. The removal of debris and contaminants is a critical step in ensuring that the high-speed buffer we use in paint correction wouldn’t abrade them directly back onto the surface, thereby causing more scratching and swirling on the painted surfaces.
Once the decontamination was completed, we used a high-speed buffer in conjunction with a heavy cut compound and an Italian sheep wool heavy cut compounding pad to sectionally remove the deeper scratches and swirls. The first step of paint correction, along with multiple passes on the areas with significantly deeper scratches and swirls, got rid of almost all deep scratches and swirls. However, since the compounding step is profoundly aggressive, compounding left swirl marks of its own that we subsequently removed using the second step of polishing the painted surfaces of the Tesla Model Y using a light cut Italian foam pad, moderate cut polish, and a high-speed buffer. By the time we were done, the Tesla Model Y was completely transformed and the customer, when he came to our shop to pick up his vehicle, thought his blue Model Y was a new car that he picked up from the showroom!
Finally, the vehicle was given a 6-month graphene sealant that enhanced the gloss and slickness of all the surfaces and gave the Tesla protection against environmental contaminants, tree sap, bird bombs, and chemical damage for months.
