How Our One-Step Paint Correction Turned this Classic Red 1966 Mustang from a Brick to Glossy Ruby Finish

Today's vehicle that we paint-corrected and detailed in the Bay Area was a factory red 1966 Ford Mustang with single-stage enamel paint. The major challenge with working on classic cars is that single-stage paints on these cars are generally softer than the clear-coated paints on newer cars. Our customer was looking to sell the car but wanted to ensure that the vehicle's cosmetics were in pristine condition. To accomplish this goal, the customer wanted us to perform a one-step paint correction and polishing on the Mustang.

When we carefully observed the paint of the Mustang, we noticed that even though it had a smooth feel, there were a substantial amount of scratches and swirls embedded in the car's paint. We started the paint correction by first giving the car a signature foam cannon wash with deionized water and ceramic shampoo. After the wash and rinse, we used high-GSM ultra-plush drying towels to wipe dry all the water from the exterior surface. We then conducted a thorough surface inspection which allowed us to conclude that the car did not need any clay bar treatment. It is important to note that performing a clay bar treatment on a vehicle that doesn't require the procedure can potentially marre or scratch the paint.

We then used a high-speed buffer to sectionally polish the Mustang while using a medium-cut polish and a finishing microfiber pad. This process got rid of about 50-60% of scratches and swirls leaving an exceptionally glossy finish. We performed this paint correction and polishing process on chrome and metal which become reflective like a mirror.

Finally, we removed all the polishing residue with a detox treatment and then installed a ceramic sealant to protect the car's surface for 6-12 months while leaving a slick and glossy finish. The customer was impressed by how good the car looked and complimented us on the work. We also detailed the interior of the vehicle while giving the leather a proper clean and condition to leave the leather seats in a supple condition.
